Mother And Child was inspired by a true event that happened in China, during a devastating earthquake in Szechuan, in 2008. The mother and the child were dug out of the rubble, with the mother arched over protecting the baby while breastfeeding, which is the happiest and most secure place for a baby, while she was battling in desperation. The mother died but the baby survived. This act of unconditional’ self-sacrificial love moved me deeply, especially as a mother of three myself. I have subsequently portrayed this story in different ways, with different mediums: oil, plaster, 3D printing and marble between 2009-2019.
And yet there is another way I would like to speak of this love story. Thus, this special 3D printing edition of Mother And Child will be dedicated to the installation fund of this story telling.
